MSI’s latest handheld gaming PC promises powerful portable performance, but its price may put it beyond the reach of many players.
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ has been listed for $1,799 in the United States. Alongside the pricing announcement, the company has warned that rising memory and storage costs could make 2026 a difficult year for gamers.
MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ Price and Availability
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is listed at $1,799 through MSI’s US store, while some retailers have shown a lower price of around $1,699.
The handheld is expected to become available in the United States on June 23. MSI has not yet announced its price or release date for India.
Even without import duties and taxes, the US price places the device closer to premium gaming laptops than mainstream handheld consoles.
What Does the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ Offer?
The new Claw is powered by Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor, which was developed for high-performance handheld gaming devices.
Its main specifications include:
- Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor
- Up to 32GB LPDDR5X memory
- 1TB SSD storage
- 8-inch touchscreen display
- 1920 × 1200 resolution
- 120Hz variable refresh rate
- 80Wh battery
- Windows 11
- Hall-effect controls
MSI says the handheld is designed to run demanding PC games while offering better efficiency and sustained performance.
The 120Hz display should provide smoother movement in racing, action and competitive games. Its large battery may also help improve playtime compared with smaller handheld devices, although real-world battery life will depend on the game and performance settings.
Why Is the New MSI Claw So Expensive?
The specifications explain part of the price, but wider changes in the hardware market are also affecting production costs.
MSI product marketing lead Andy Chu said the company tried to keep the price as low as possible. However, increasing memory and storage costs have made that more difficult.
Demand from artificial intelligence companies and data centres has placed additional pressure on the supply of memory components. This can increase costs for consumer devices such as gaming laptops, desktop computers and handheld gaming PCs.
The Claw 8 EX AI+ also comes with 32GB of fast memory and premium hardware as standard. MSI has not yet introduced a more affordable configuration with less RAM or storage.
MSI Warns That Prices Could Rise Again
MSI has indicated that another price increase remains possible if component costs continue to rise.
That warning could affect more than the new Claw. Gaming laptops, desktop components and other portable gaming devices may also become more expensive if memory and storage prices remain high.
For players planning to upgrade their hardware in 2026, this could mean fewer affordable choices and smaller discounts on premium products.
However, MSI has not confirmed a second increase for the Claw 8 EX AI+. Its current statement only suggests that future price changes are possible.
Is the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ Worth $1,799?
On paper, the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is one of the most powerful Windows gaming handhelds announced this year.
Its Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, 32GB of memory, large battery and 120Hz screen make it an ambitious portable gaming device. The problem is that its price overlaps with capable gaming laptops that offer larger displays, dedicated graphics and easier hardware upgrades.
The Claw may still appeal to players who want high-end PC gaming in a portable design. For mainstream buyers, however, $1,799 will be difficult to justify without strong performance, battery life and thermal results.
Independent reviews will provide a clearer picture once the handheld becomes widely available.
